Forms of Treatment

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidenced based intervention for anxiety disorders.  It is a targeted intervention helping clients understand the interconnectedness of their thoughts, emotions and behaviors, allowing for intervention at each point in the cycle. CBT is an active, goal-oriented therapy with a primary goal in CBT to address unhelpful thoughts and behaviors that maintain suffering.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) is a form of CBT and is considered to be the gold-standard treatment for OCD.  It is often used in conjunction with medication management (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, SSRIs) prescribed by a psychiatrist.  ERP helps clients respond skillfully to the unwanted intrusive thoughts (called obsessions) through Exposures to the anxiety inducing thoughts and Response Prevention to the behavioral or mental compulsions that follow.  ERP is a systematic approach that empowers clients in the treatment process to tolerate unwanted thoughts and urges. Weekly outpatient or virtual appointments with homework exercises are an effective method of delivering ERP.

Cognitive Behavioral Wellness utilizes thoroughly researched protocols to ensure you receive the most effective form of support of OCD and Anxiety spectrum disorders, while appreciating the uniqueness of each individual and experience, and the need to tailor treatment protocols accordingly.
